I am writing this post back at home again. We got back yesterday after an all night flight (on which there was a delightful screaming baby!).
In our last few days we went to Phuket FantaSea, which is a sort of show involving elephants. We thought it was something else that a few people recommended to us. We were dropped off at 6pm, had dinner, and then spent the next 2 1/2 hours sitting around bored stiff. The show is inside a sort of theme park with lots of games to play where you try and win a shoddy prize etc. I guess they want you to spend money and buy lots of stuff but nothing was at all interesting. We just sat and listened to a band. Finally we went in to see the show, we were pretty over it by the time we got in. You have to leave your camera outside - and they pat you down to make sure that you have done it! The show was not that good and we don't recommend it. I mean, it was ok, but for the money you pay and the looooong wait, it was just not worth it. The dinner is like being in a giant RSL and the food is similar.
The day after than we went to Simon Cabaret which is a lady-boy show. It was good and they did impressions of Beyonce (that lady-boy looked sooo much like her!), Tina Turner and also Chinese pop stars. There were lots of Chinese tourists in the show and they went nuts for those songs.... and then some of them appeared to fall asleep in the English songs!?? It was good though. That is a picture of one of the lady-boys above.
On our second last day we went sea kayaking. We were picked up at 11.30 and then went out on a boat to a few different islands, then we paddled around into caves and lagoons from the boat. We went into a cave full of little bats all over the roof. They gave us a little torch and we had to point it at them to see them. It was pitch black in that cave without it. I saw a big igana swimming in the water too. He looked like a little crocodile at first. This was probably one of the best things we did.
On our last day we just hung out at the beach and the pool and then had dinner at one of the hotel restaurants overlooking the beach. The we went to the airport... and the rest you know!
